  • 27.11.2012:Extension of Banking arrangement with HDFC Bank, Union Bank of India and ICICI Bank: CMS agreements between BSNL and HDFC Bank, Union Bank of India and ICICI Bank have been extended upto 28.2.2013 on the same terms and conditions under the previous agreement.

  • 23.11.2012:No Proposal for Relaxing Navratna Norms: There is no proposal to relax the norms laid down for granting the Navratna status to CPSEs. As per the criteria laid down by the Government, Miniratna Category – I and Schedule ‘A’ Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs), which have obtained ‘excellent’ or ‘very good’ rating under the Memorandum of Understanding system in three of the last five years, and have a composite score of 60 or above in the six selected performance parameters, namely, (i) net profit to net worth, (ii) manpower cost to total cost of production/services, (iii) profit before depreciation, interest and taxes to capital employed, (iv) profit before interest and taxes to turnover, (v) earning per share and (vi) inter sectoral performance, are eligible to be considered for grant of Navratna status. The above information was given by the Minister for Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises Shri Praful Patel to the parliament. (PIB)

  • 22.11.2012:BSNL targets Rs 1,600 cr revenue from tower biz in 5 yrs: BSNL has also said that it expects to garner Rs 400 crore revenue annually by providing broadband connectivity to schools, Rs 250 crore per annum from rental income of its land and buildings, Rs 40 crore per annum from Wi-Fi networks and Rs 100 crore in FY 2014-15 from its telecom factory.   • 21.11.2012:CHQ writes to CMD regarding grant of five advance increments to departmental JAOs who passed the JAO Part II examination held in January 2010: 'During our meeting with GM (Estt) on 31.7.2012 we were informed that the Committee constituted for considering the issue has recommended grant of advance increments to remove the anomaly and that the Management Committee will consider the recommendation. We have been waiting patiently for more than three months for the Management Committee to take a view on the issue. But no decision appears to have been taken in this regard till date. The delay is causing a lot of resentment among the affected JAOs.' Read More...

  • 11.11.2012:Govt. to begin 2G telecom spectrum auction tomorrow: The government will begin tomorrow the auction for telecom spectrum through which it is hoping to meet Rs 40,000 crore revenue target. The auction for the airwaves or frequencies freed from the cancellation of 122 telecom licenses, belonging to mainly eight companies, by the Supreme Court in February, will start at 0900 hours on Monday.(ET)

  • 08.11.2012:Bharti Airtel’s profits decline for 11th consecutive quarter: 'Bharti Airtel, India’s largest telecom service provider today reported a decline in profits for 11thconsecutive quarter. Its net profit fell to Rs 721 crore (Rs 7.21 billion) for the quarter ended September, 30 per cent decline compared to corresponding quarter in the last financial year. This is 11th consecutive quarter, when its profits declined. This is sorry state of affairs for Bharti Airtel, which was considered as the poster boy of India’s telecom sector. Now it emerges that the company was thriving mainly on getting spectrum without paying licence fee to the government.' Read More...

  • 08.11.2012:TRAI issues “The Standards of Quality of Service of Basic Telephone Service (wireline) and Cellular Mobile Telephone Service (Second Amendment) Regulations, 2012 (24 of 2012)”: 'Some of the provisions of these regulations are:- Financial disincentive on Cellular Mobile Telephone Service operators for non-compliance with the benchmark for the Network Service Quality Parameters at a rate not exceeding Rs 50,000 per parameter for the first non-compliance and Rs 1,00,000 per parameter for subsequent non-compliance of the benchmarks. Financial disincentive on Basic Telephone Service (wireline) and Cellular Mobile Telephone Service operators for non-compliance with the benchmark for the Customer Service Quality Parameters at a rate not exceeding Rs 50,000 per parameter.'   • 07.11.2012:Telecom industry loses 1.87 million subscribers in September due to large-scale disconnection: 'Trai attributed the decline in subscriber base "to large scale disconnection by some of the service providers." State-run BSNL emerged as market leader in new subscribers addition during the month amid the declining trend of subscriber base. "I am unable to recall if BSNL ever lead market in terms of new subscriber additions. Addition of highest number of customers by BSNL in September acknowledges hard work of BSNL employees and improvement in the network," BSNL Chairman and Managing Director R K Upadhyay told PTI.'   • 07.11.2012:Relieving of ITS Group A officers - issue pending before Delhi High Court: After hearing the counsels of different parties, the court is reported to have allowed time upto 15th December 2012 for relieving the repatriated officers, without prejudice to any new proposal of DoT being considered by the COS and later by the cabinet. The case has been posted for 18th December 2012.

  • 06.11.2012:Meeting with Sr.GM (Pers): GS met Sr.GM (Pers) yesterday and discussed the following issues : (1)Promotion from TES Group B to DE(Adhoc): Sr.GM (Pers) informed that the proposal submitted to Management Committee of BSNL Board for diversion of 1300 STS (Telecom) posts from MT quota to promotion quota was again discussed in the last meeting of the MC. MC of BSNL Board has observed that the proposal does not have the financial concurrence. Therefore, now, the proposal has been sent to Establishment Finance section for financial concurrence. After getting the financial concurrence, the proposal will be resubmitted to the MC for approval.
    (2) Creation of additional ADOL posts for MP Circle: Sr.GM (Pers) informed that the committee constituted to examine the various issues related to Official Language has not submitted its report. Therefore it has been decided that all the issues related to OL will be dealt by the Pers-II section. We once again brought to the notice of Sr GM(Pers) that Madhya Pradesh Circle was earlier having 30 posts of AD(OL) but after the reassessment in the year 2008, 30 posts have been reduced to 5. This was a reduction of more than 80% posts without any justification. Circles like Punjab, Rajasthan, UP(W), UP(E) etc. are having more AD(OL) posts in comparison to MP Circle. Sr.GM (Pers) assured us that he will take necessary action for creation of some more posts of AD(OL) in MP Circle.
