CHQ writes to Secretary, DoT on Early finalisation of the issue of
absorption of ITS Group A officers in BSNL:
Having exhausted the normal period of deputation of
five years a statutory limit w.e.f. 1.10.2000 as granted by the Cabinet, the
left out ITS Group A officers were allowed further extensions by DOT of its own,
finally upto the year 2008. Afterwards, they have been allowed to continue on
deputation even without any formal order extending their deputation.

Solution in sight for settlement of anomaly in pay fixation of JTO and
equivalent cadres in revised IDA scales?:
We have been continuously pursuing this issue with
BSNL as well as DoT and have sought the intervention of DPE and MoC too
[View our recent letter to DoT].
It is learnt that the case w.r.t. JTO 2005 Batch
has been examined and a proposal to resolve this issue is being put up to
Management Committee of BSNL. We shall continue to pursue the issue to
ensure that anomaly within the batch in respect of all equivalent cadres are
also resolved in similar manner.

Revaluation of answer papers of candidates who got a few marks less than
the qualifying marks in LDCE for promotion to SDE (T) held in 2007:
In a meeting we had with GM (Rectt) on Thursday, we
have been informed that the delay in finalisation of the issue was due to
preoccupation of the section with holding of JAO Part II Examination during the
first week of January. Now the process has resumed and is expected to be
completed in a short time.

Executives: 'In the absence
of any decision on this issue, the JTO/equivalents and SDE/equivalent cadres in

place of E2A) what they were actually having prior to second pay revision. This
is a very unfortunate and anomalous situation prevailing only in BSNL. '

Airtel: Perhaps taking a cue
from the austerity wave initiated by various government agencies and more so to
benefit out of the tariff drop in telecom services, the Prime Minister’s Office
(PMO) is now looking for options and may replace the present service provider,
Airtel. The requirements of PMO include 50 GSM connections with ISD
facility, 25 Blackberry connections, the numbers to be in special series,
roaming including international on some of the numbers and internal building

PMO steps in after BSNL puts bid on hold:
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) is all set to intervene
in BSNL’s tender fiasco as the state-owned telco has now decided to put its 93
million lines GSM contract, the world’s largest equipment deal, ‘on hold,’ an
executive with direct knowledge of the development told ET.The PMO has called
for a meeting on January 6 to discuss BSNL’s performance as the telco has been
losing revenues and market share — the delay in awarding contracts in the 93
million lines tender will be a primary issue on the agenda, this executive
explained.According to government officials aware of the development, Prime
Minister Manmohan Singh will meet communications minister A Raja, finance
minister Pranab Mukherjee, department of telecom secretary PJ Thomas, top
executives from BSNL including its CMD Kuldeep Goyal, executives from the
Planning Commission and Knowledge Commission chairman Sam Pitroda (who is also a
special advisor to the DoT) during the January 6 meeting to discuss the plight
