• 24.09.2008: According to a TRAI press release today, BSNL has lost 2,09,285 wiredlines and has just added 6,38,118 wireless connections out of 9.16 million added by all the operators together, in August 2008.

• 19.09.2008:No association of BSNL executives granted applicant status – says BSNL:   In response to the questions raised under Right to Information Act 2005, BSNL has now stated that “No association of BSNL Executives has so far been granted applicant status to participate in the membership verification” and “the status of applicant association will be granted only at the time of membership verification process”. This statement of BSNL thus exposes the false claim of one association of BSNL Executives that they have been `recognized’ and granted `applicant status’. BSNL has further stated that “As and when required, BSNL Management at different level can meet with any association(s)/union(s) so as to maintain industrial peace and harmony in the organization’. The above statement of BSNL do have immense significance in view of the disinformation campaign launched by some vested interests to create confusion and gain advantage out of it.

• 19.09.2008:DPC and promotion from JAO to AO: Since receipt of Vigilance Clearance is said to be over, DPC for promotion from JAO to AO is expected to be held early next week.

• 19.09.2008:DPC and promotion from SDEs Telecom to DEs Telecom on ad hoc basis- left out cases:  BSNL has since collected the missing ACRs in respect of the left out SDEs Telecom who missed their promotion in the last DPC for promotion to Des Telecom on ad hoc basis. The process to hold the DPC and issue the promotion continues. The promotion and posting order for the successful candidates may be issued before this month end.

• 19.09.2008:DPC and promotion from SDEs Telecom to DEs Telecom on ad hoc basis -  cases of the SDEs of competitive quota who gained seniority on revision of their seniority:  BSNL had recently called for the CRs and other documents in respect of 58 SDEs Telecom out of 147 SDEs Telecom of competitive quota who gained seniority following revision of their seniority.  It is now gathered that most of the CRs have since been received. Remaining CRs are also expected to be received soon. They may receive their promotion and posting order in October 2008.   

• 18.09.2008:Joint Forum of BSNL Associations/Unions of Executives & Non-Executives met today to discuss some important common issues. Com.V.P.Arya, General Secretary, participated in the meeting. In the background of reports that majority of the Group A officers may not opt for absorption in BSNL and that BSNL management is contemplating to continue their deputation, a resolution has been passed unanimously seeking immediate repatriation of BSNL employees and executives to DoT in view of the dual policy of the Govt. and BSNL on the issue of absorption. Read the resolution...  In a letter addressed to CMD BSNL, the Joint Forum has suggested an opinion poll among the entire BSNL employees/executives on IPO, instead of the present Opinion Poll called by the Management through Intranet which is accessible to only a few senior level officers and hence will not reflect the reality. • 18.09.2008:Promotion from JTO to SDE Telecom under 25% competitive quota: Vigilance clearances are yet to be received from some small circles. It may take a few more weeks for issue of Promotion and Posting orders.

• 18.09.2008:Declaration of Results of JTO (Outsider) Examination: The work has reportedly been almost complete but for receipt of details of vacancies for 3% quota for disabled persons from some Circles.  Results are expected to be declared immediately afterwards.

• 08.09.2008: We had earlier reported that the Punjab/Haryana High Court  has directed BSNL to restore Outside quota JTO vacancies diverted to departmental quota for promoting the qualified TTAs (500 vacancies every year). This was based on an  averment in the affidavit filed by BSNL. This averment is now reported to have been incorrect.  Legal opinion is said to have been sought for to straighten the record by approaching the Punjab High Court in this matter.  The order diverting 500 posts for 2008 has been kept in abeyance for this reason only. CHQ is pursuing the issue for an early solution.

• 06.09.2008:CHQ has written to Director (HRD) on relaxation of qualifying standards for the LDCE for promotion to SDE Telecom for which results were declared last month: 'In view of the above, we would earnestly request you to kindly extend the benefit of similar relaxed standards, as detailed in BSNL’s Order No. 12-15/2002-DE dated 10^th March 2003, also to the remaining candidates who appeared in the Limited Departmental Competitive Examination for recruitment of SDEs Telecom held on 15.07.2007'. • 06.09.2008:Delhi High Court cases on absorption of Group `A‘ Officers:  The cases on absorption of Group A Officers in BSNL/MTNL came up for hearing in Delhi High Court yesterday. The counsel on behalf of DoT urged for early hearing in view of the option already called for with modified terms and conditions of service as approved by the Cabinet. However, the advocates on behalf of the petitioners requested for some more time to respond to the affidavit submitted by DoT. The court finally directed the cases to be listed for final hearing on 5^th and 6^th November 2008. Meanwhile the case earlier filed by MEWA, an MTNL Executives’ Association, against DoT’s decision to allow further time for option for absorption in MTNL is already listed for hearing on 30^th September 2008.  

• 05.09.2008:BSNL has issued orders late in the evening, keeping in abeyance its earlier order dated 12.8.08 diverting 500 JTO posts from outsider quota to 35% departmental quota.

• 05.09.2008:As reiterated by us time and again, we have been sincerely pursuing the cases of reallotment of circle for SDES who were promoted to STS on adhoc basis and orders are being issued in a piece-meal manner.  More such orders have been issued yesterday and today and more are yet to be issued, since this is a continuous process. • 01.09.2008:AIBSNLOA CHQ OFFICE BEARERS MEET CMD BSNL AND DIRECTOR (FINANCE): CHQ President Com.J.K.Mishra, GS Com.V.P.Arya and Corporate Office Circle Secretary Com.V.S.Raghavan met CMD BSNL and handed over a letter on behalf of AIBSNLOA CHQ offering to contribute to the cause of Bihar flood victims and requesting to deduct one day's pay from the salary of all BSNL employees for the month of September 2008.  In addition we had suggested that BSNL also should contribute for the cause from its funds.  CMD appreciated our concern for the fellow country men in Bihar and directed to call for others' views on the proposals. Later the office bearers met Director (Finance) also on the issue who has assured to support the proposals when it comes to him for consideration.   Read the letter...
